Your donations at work
$25 provides 3 colorfully illustrated childrens
books, giving them a reason to read for fun and become truly fluent readers.
Books are used in school and communal libraries and in that way are accessible
to literally hundreds of children.
$200 helps senior citizens, whose children may have died
in the war, learn a craft that brings them extra income and benefit from
socializing. We ask the youths from our projects to become directly involved
in these activities with the senior citizens from their communities and
in this way build bonds between the generations.
$150 provides a 7th-9th grade scholarship for one year.
It includes uniforms, shoes and some of the needed school supplies.
$250 provides a high school student scholarship for one
year. It covers tuition($80-$100/year), uniforms, school supplies and
some of the expense of transportation. Education in El Salvador is now
free to students from K-9th grades, but high school is not and in a poverty
stricken country even the small tuition in public high schools is more
that most families can afford.
$400 pays the salary of a school librarian or teachers
aid for one year.
$3500 pays the salary of a high school math or science
teacher for one year. At many of the rural schools in El Salvador, the
cost of some teachers is not covered by the ministry of education. Some
high schools only have one or two paid teachers and these are responsible
to teach all the high school classes.
$1000 allows you to sponsor a high school graduate to
a year of higher education. Of your donation each student receives $850/year
in ten monthly payments, the remaining money is used to pay for 3 students
house we rent, 2 in Salvador and 1 in San Miguel for our students from
Morazan. Our financial aid is given as no interest student loans, the
contract with the student is that in exchange for financial aid, he or
she will 1) pay costs of higher education for a younger brother or sister,
2) do community or social work or 3) repay the no interest loan, providing
funds for other students in rural El Salvador to attend the university.
These are examples of how your donations directly affect
the lives of not only the students, but communities in El Salvador that
will benefit from their increased skills and broader understanding.
